William John Crampton

William John Crampton, Jr., age 98 of Columbiaville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Suncrest of Lapeer. His funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 3-8PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.

Bill was born in Otisville on March 14, 1925 to William and Muriel Crampton.  He married Olive Gardner on December 16, 1949. He worked as a farmer until 1955, before being hired as an Executive Director of the United States Department of Agriculture. Bill worked for the USDA for 32 years before retiring on January 1, 1988. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church, serving as an ordained minister from February 1951 to present day. Bill enjoyed going to restaurants, visiting with people, and making new friends. He was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

Bill is survived by his children: William (Joyce) Crampton, III and Angela (James) Robertson; grandchildren: Christine Walker, Joshua Crampton, Kristen (Brad) Webber, Adam Robertson, Holly (Michael) Thyng, Adam Dotson, Nicholas (Chelsea) Dotson, and Brandon (Sarah) Robertson; 20 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and his sister, Lila Linson, several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive; parents; daughter, Bernice Walker; and siblings: Mary (Edward) Hart, Lucille (Robert) Sanborn, Hope (Arnold) Pillen, Don (Dorothy) Crampton, Thomas (Jean) Crampton, and Lee (Elanor) Crampton.
