R.J. SMITH, age 65 of Clio, died Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3PM Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home, Pastor Bruce Malicoat officiating. Visitation will be Friday from Noon-4PM ,Saturday from 10AM-2PM and 4-8PM and Sunday from noon until time of service. Cremation will take place after the funeral service. Contributions may be made to the family. RJ and his family owned Smith's Meats in Millington, where he worked as a meat cutter and butcher. They also owned and ran the Brahma Town Rodeo. RJ spent his life working as a horse shoer, horse trainer, horse clinician, and storyteller. He was a member and past president of the Michigan Horse Council, a member and past president and vice president of the Shiawassee Trail Riders, a member of the Michigan Trail Riders, Midwest Cowboy Association, and the NRA. He loved to write, raise buffalo, watch birds, and go trail riding. Surviving is his wife: Jane Smith; four daughters; 2 sons; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
