Norman L. Garrett

Norman Leslie Garrett, ("Norm"), age 83, of Otisville, died at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital on Monday, March 8, 2021.  Norm was born on December 3, 1937 in Yakima, Washington to Harvey Ellis Garrett and Anna Edna Smith, and was the youngest of four siblings.  He married the love of his life, Eleanor Garrett in 1984; they lived happily both in the Flint area and in their current Otisville home.  Norm served in the Army Security Agency ("ASA") just after the Korean War where he was a Morse Intercept until his honorable discharge in 1959. In the ASA, he was recognized as a Sharpshooter and received: a Good Conduct Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Cold War Commemorative Medal, and an Honorable Service Commemorative Medal. After his military service, Norm received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Aurora College and later his Masters of Arts Degree from Eastern Michigan University.  He had a diverse career with most of his working life spent in retail sales but had many other jobs including: elementary school teacher, supervisor of boys at a local Boy's correctional institution, and driving vehicles for the Flint Auto Auction.  Besides enjoying his retirement with Eleanor, Norm enjoyed staying in frequent contact with his ASA buddies via the Internet.

Norm is survived by his beloved widow, Eleanor, two children, Patrick Garrett and Paula Rucks from a previous marriage, and two step-children, Louise Wiggins and Janice Buchanan, and a total of 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild in his blended family.

He will be laid to rest at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Michigan at a private ceremony on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
