Mary Lou Lawrence

MARY LOU LAWRENCE , age 88, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023. She was the daughter of Willard and Zela Matthews (Stickney). Mary was born on April 23, 1934 in Flint, MI. She graduated from Clio High School in 1952 and married George Lawrence on October 15, 1955. They spent over 67 years together. Mary loved living on their farm in Clio, raising their horses, dogs, and other animals before moving to Drummond Island.  George and Mary enjoyed rural, island life for over 30 years, where they became very active in the community making many friends. Mary enjoyed taking walks in the woods and spending time with their dogs. Mary also was very active in photography, taking pictures of the wildlife and natural habitat surrounding them on the beautiful Island. She loved visiting with her family and friends when the time allowed. Mary was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Drummond Island Lutheran Church, and many other clubs and organizations.

Mary is survived by her brother, John Matthews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lawrence; sons: Michael Scott and Mark Steven Lawrence; father, Willard Matthews; mother, Zela Bloomfield; stepfather, Carl Bloomfield; and brothers: Robert Matthews and Charles Matthews.

Mary was a strong, caring person who always looked out for her family and friends. Mary was a pillar in her family and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Residential Hospice and Stonegate Health Campus of Lapeer for their care and compassion.

Mary's funeral service will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home in Otisville. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from Noon until the time of her service at the funeral home.
