Leon R. Smith

LEON RALPH SMITH, age 85 of Vassar, died Monday, March 11, 2019 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. His funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Vassar Church of the Nazarene, 3822 W. Saginaw Rd., Vassar, MI 48768. Burial will take place in the Great Lakes Nation Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 2-8PM at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UAW Local 651 Veterans Committee for Ramps for Disabled Veterans. Leon was born on March 28, 1933 in Flint, MI to Frank and Elizabeth Smith. He married Carolyn Arnold on June 10, 1983. Leon served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the Vassar Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed doing puzzle books and mowing his lawn. Leon is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Scott (Julie) Smith of Tampa, Fl; daughters: Lisa Smith of Vassar, Susan (Chris) Gwisdala of Vassar, and Robyn (Chris) Anderson of Reese; stepdaughter, Marilee (Bob) Sims; 14 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 2 step great great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren on the way; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Smith; step son, Robert Arnold; 4 brothers and a sister.
