Julia Ann Rae

Julia Ann Rae, of Otisville, died on Sunday, July 2, 2023 in her home at the age of 92.

Julia was born August 31, 1930 in Paris, AR to William and Eula Houser.  She had two brothers, Bill and Bob, and one sister, Elizabeth Carolyn. After graduation, Julia's parents moved to Searcy, AR so she could attend Harding College and live at home.  While at Harding, she met a cute guy named Wally. Julia married Wally on June 1, 1950. After the birth of their first child, Connie, they moved to Bay City, MI, where their sons, Bill and Ted, were born. While there, Julia enjoyed her time as a full-time mother of three. In 1959, Wally and Julia returned to Searcy, where Wally finished his degree at Harding.  After Wally graduated in 1960, the family moved back to Michigan, where Julia began substitute teaching for the same district in which Wally taught, LakeVille Community Schools.  In 1965, Wally and Julia were sent by the Mt. Morris Church of Christ to help plant the Otisville Church of Christ.

Though she retired from subbing in 1991, Julia enjoyed teaching. She taught Sunday School and Ladies' Bible classes for more than 40 years. Julia also enjoyed speaking to audiences of Christian women at her home congregation, as well as at other churches.  While serving as an elder's wife, she hosted meals and provided lodging for many ministers and missionaries.

Besides loving Wally and her family, she had many hobbies. Julia enjoyed bird-watching, gardening, and traveling.  She was a writer of poetry and an avid reader.  Julia also created many beautiful works with needle-point, beading, crocheting, quilting and sewing.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie and husband, Phillip Cooper of Flint, MI; sons: Bill and wife, Kendra of Otisville, MI and Ted Rae of Burbank, CA; nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Julia was preceded in death by her brothers: Bill and Bob Houser; great-granddaughter, Madison Rae; and her husband of 71 years, Wallace E. Rae.

Visitation will take place at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home in Otisville, MI on Thursday, July 6th from 4-8PM and on Friday, July 7th at the Otisville Church of Christ from 10AM until the start of her service.  The celebration of Julia's life will begin at 11 AM on Friday and burial will follow at 3PM at Demorest Cemetery in Akron, MI.
