Helga Peltonen

HELGA PELTONEN, age 80 of Lapeer, passed away peacefully Friday, January 1, 2021 at McLaren-Lapeer. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 450 Wilson Rd Otisville MI 48463. Helga was born on September 8, 1940 in Augsburg, Germany to Wilhelm and Gertrud Schweiger. Helga met Robert Peltonen while he was serving in Germany. They married in 1957 then moved back to the United States and started their life together.  She owned a seamstress shop called Helga's Alterations in Lapeer. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Otisville, the Red Hat Society, Eunice Society, Lapeer Wild Flowers Organization, and the Lapeer Area Community Educational Outreach. Helga enjoyed sewing, gardening, knitting, crocheting, baking, cooking authentic German food to share with others, traveling, watching the Detroit Tigers, and spending Friday nights with the girls. She is survived by her children: Zane (Diane) Peltonen, Vera Peltonen-Bean, Sabrina Peltonen-Crace, and Lisa Peltonen –Hamilton; grandchildren: Dawn (Jason) Wyatt, Amie (Trey) Soto, Bryan Peltonen, Aaron Peltonen, Cortney Crace, Adam (Kaitlyn) Hamilton, Tyler Peltonen, Jordan Crace, and Taylor Crace; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Emma, Dru, Noah, and Raelyn; and sister, Trudi Schäffler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
