George Elmer Lawrence

GEORGE ELMER LAWRENCE , age 89, passed away on February 15, 2023. He was born on February 18, 1933 to Delmar and Bernice Lawrence. George graduated from Otisville High in 1952.  He married Mary Lou Matthews on October 15, 1955 and shared over 67 years together. George served his country in the US Army during the Korean war. He was a Freemason and Shriner, where he was a member of the military patrol. George was a member of the Drummond Island Lutheran Church, Lions Club, and many other organizations. George was an outgoing, fun-loving person who could make anyone feel like a friend.  He loved having coffee and doughnuts while catching up with old friends and reminiscing with family. George could always be found in his bib overalls and ball cap. He will be deeply missed for his ability to make everyone laugh and spark a conversation with anyone.  George grew up in Otisville where he had great times and many memories. George and Mary loved their life on the farm in Clio with their horse before moving to Drummond Island, where he resided for over 30 years, making many friends and memories with his wife, Mary. George and Mary became active in the community while enjoying their life on the island.  He is survived by his wife, Mary and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Michael Scott Lawrence and Mark Steve Lawrence; his parents; and his brothers: Jack and Jim; and his sister, Judy.

George will be greatly missed he touched so many people's lives.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to Residential Hospice and Stonegate Health Campus of Lapeer for their care and compassion.

George's funeral service will be held at 3PM Monday February 20, 2023, at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home Otisville, the family will receive visitors from 12:30PM until the time of his service on Monday.
