Evie Lynne Joyce (Bechard) Hamel

EVIE LYNNE JOYCE (BECHARD) HAMEL , age 83 of Otisville, died and joined her beloved Harry, surrounded by family on March 19, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Friday, March 23, 2018 at St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Kenneth F. Coughlin officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be held from 2-8PM Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the funeral home. Evie was born on June 7, 1934 in Detroit, MI to the late Edmund and Bonnie Bechard. She was the elder sister to her beloved sister and birthday present, Denise Locke. She married Harry J. Hamel on August 11, 1951 when she was 17 years old and he was 19 years old. They were a true testament to what love and an enduring marriage is after celebrating their 60 ^th wedding anniversary in 2011. After they were wed, Evie was a homemaker and full time mother until Harry went to Germany with the Army. She then took a Veterinary Assistant position with Dr. Pat in Detroit, MI. She truly enjoyed the position even enlisting her mother one night to assist with a C-section birth of puppies. Once Harry was back from the Army, she returned to full time homemaking until her youngest daughter, Patrice, was diagnosed with severe juvenile diabetes. She then began fundraising for the American Diabetes Association until taking a position with LakeVille schools for 30+ years. She enjoyed seeing all the students whose lives she touched while there. She was a practical joker who loved to laugh with her family and friends. Whenever called upon to help she never turned away. She always tried to live up to what she thought her Lord would want her to do, but having also been given free will to choose, she said He and she may have a few things to talk about when she gets to heaven. She leaves behind many friends and family after going to join Harry and her youngest daughter, Patrice, both of whom preceded her in death. Left to cherish her in memory are her children: Renee and Jack, Yvonne and Tony, Celeste, and Joseph and Kim; grandchildren: Clarice, Dannette, Adelle and George, Jessica and Nick, Chrys and Katie, Anna, Erin, Paige and David, and Matthew; great-grandchildren: Shauna, Zachary, Dominic, Isabel, Alli, Chloe, Violet, Hazel and Cyprus. The family would like to express their special thanks to the nurses and staff at McLaren Hospice, Lisa Lindsay, CFNP and her staff, and McLaren Hospital for their kind care and support during this difficult time.
