Elvin Ruby

ELVIN RUBY, age 94 of Otter Lake, died Monday, November 1, 2021 at McLaren in Lapeer. His Funeral service will be held at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 2PM. Burial will follow in Otter Lake Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 11AM until the time of his service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Strength in Numbers,(which is a group of private citizens helping veterans in need), 705 E. Flint St., Davison, MI 48423 checks payable to Renee Verbeke or Laura Petherbridge. Elvin was born on January 28, 1927 in Otter Lake to Allen and Mary Ruby. After high school, he joined the US Army serving his country. He married Marjorie Heddon, also known as "wife," on August 5, 1950. He was a charter member of the Otter Lake American Legion Post 504 and served as the Fire Chief and Constable for Otter Lake. In 1980, he retired from the Fisher 1 Plant. Elvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the guitar and singing karaoke. He also loved spending time with his friends and neighbors and at the local watering hole. He is survived by his children: Denise Short, Laura (Gene) Petherbridge, and Mark (Michele Sprung) Ruby; grandchildren: David Short, Timothy Short, Elizabeth Ryan, and Heather Sprung; great grandchildren: Deztiny Short, Timothy Short, Jr., Kaitlynn Short, Bowen Ryan, and Raelyn Ryan; great great grandchildren: Audry and Mila. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; son, Tim Ruby; daughters: Kathleen Ruby and Krystal Ruby; three brothers and one sister. The family would like to thank his very special caregiver, Holly Bostic and her husband, Bill, for caring for him so well. They were Elvin's special friends. The family would also like to recognize caregivers: Tonya Schmidt, Lisa Huttenbach, Jessica Stone, and Kim Bailey. "We can't thank you all enough."
