Eleanor Joyce Schmidt

Eleanor Schmidt, 91, passed away at Fisher Nursing Care in Mayville on June 24, 2021. There will be a Celebration of Life outdoors in a tent to be held on Saturday, July 10th, starting at 1pm with a sermon, followed by a luncheon and fellowship with friends and family of Eleanor Schmidt. The address is 4765 Hollenbeck Road, Columbiaville, MI. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Lace Animal Rescue in Columbiaville. Our Mother, Eleanor, fulfilled many roles throughout her life, among them: sister, homemaker, mother, caretaker, scout leader, student, artist, home designer and draftsman. She always aspired toward quality and excellence. She loved home improvement magazines and doing the daily crossword puzzles. She made sure her children learned to read early and were familiar with the library and museums. She kept a clean home, wherever you looked, there was something lovely and interesting. When she was young, she gardened, canned, and cooked for farm hands, as well as family. She stepped into the role of Girl Scout leader when no one else would to ensure that her daughters could have the experience and enhanced the lives of many other girls in the process. She attended college, earned various degrees, and graduated with honors. She created designs for many homes as well as for commercial buildings. She provided long-term, day-to-day help for her aging mother, which allowed her to remain in her own home. For many years, she worked at Sears to provide an extra income for her family. When Charlotte was a young, single mother, she helped with childcare for Tommy. In later years, she helped Margie as well. She worked hard all her life, until failing health no longer permitted it. She always tried to do the right thing as she saw fit. Eleanor and Nelson had five children: Charlotte(Kenneth), Gay, Phil(Marylou), Ruth, and Margaret(Brian); grandkids: Tom B., Jed(Elizabeth), Karl, Kevin(Robin), Lesley(Keegan), Andra, Tommy F., Averie(EJ), Sarah(Craig), Michelle(Jay), Laura(Andrea); great grandkids: Jessica(Jason), Eleanor, Florence, Gabe(Veronica), Seth, Isabella, Luciana, Aria, Phillip, Alexandra, Caroline, Emma, Wyatt, Grayson, Amelia, Remington, Everly, Josiah, Craig IV, Raelynn, Izzie, Jake; great great grandkids: Payton, Maddison, Paxton, Ezra; Eleanor has three sisters Grace, Lois, and Gail.
