Dorthea Mae (Root) Simonye

DORTHEA M. (ROOT) SIMONYE, age 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 29, 2012 at Kelly Manor. Visitation hours will be Monday, March 5, 2012 from 11AM to 8PM at Mumford–Hudson Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial. Contributions may be made to the Lisa McElrath Scholarship Fund, 7135 Bray Rd., Mt. Morris, MI 48458. Dorthea was born on October 22, 1914, the eldest of 11 children, to Bethel and Paulette (Crocker) Root. She lived most of her life in Flint and Davison. She married Louis J. Simonye on March 17, 1933 in Angola, IN. He preceded her in death in January of 1983. Surviving are her sons: Richard (Norma) Simonye and Earl (Lynn) Simonye; daughter in-laws: Betty Simonye and Janet Simonye; grandchildren: Debbie (Tom) Secord, Chris Simonye, Gerald Simonye, Michele Lovell, Bruce (Bette) Simonye, Scott (Julie)Simonye, Laurie (Bill) Baker, Larry (Ruth) Simonye, Kevin (Vicki) Simonye, Gary Simonye, Regina Renner, and John McElrath; 20 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; sisters: Laura, Ruth, and Vivian; brothers: Nelson and Charles; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her sons: L. Dean, Larry, and Gerald; granddaughter, Lisa McElrath; and brothers: Betts, Ace, Thomas, George, and Bill.
