Don Carl Olmsted, age 84 of Burton & Leisure Lake, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
His funeral service will be held at 11AM on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1084 N. Irish Rd., Davison, MI 48423. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, October 12, 2025 from 3-7PM at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home in Otisville.
Don was born on February 28, 1941 to J Harold and Thelma (Proctor) Olmsted. In celebration of his birth, his grandfather bought a new 1941 Buick.
Don was a proud member of Kearsley Class of 1959. He attended Flint Junior College (later becoming Mott Community College) where he studied business. He eventually went on to work at Stokes Steel Treating, where he retired after many years of driving truck for them. Don was a dedicated UAW member that was often seen at the negotiating table, fighting for fellow union members.
Don had been a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church since 1954 and has attended Grace Presbyterian since that church was started in 2013. He also recently became a member of The Flint Institute of Arts.
It is not so important what we do on earth as it is with what we leave behind. Don leaves behind many, many friends. He has had friends for 80 years. He made friends everywhere he went and was proud of his ability to make and keep friends for so many years. Don enjoyed his job, family and friends. He also enjoyed spending summers at Lake Fenton as a child, color tours in northern Michigan, visiting Las Vegas with his children, and relaxing on southern California beaches, especially Venice Beach. Don spent many years enjoying his little place at Leisure Lake, where his life found total leisure around the campfire and taking naps.
Don leaves three children that were cherished and loved more than they were ever told: James Olmsted of Davison, MI, Susan (Michael) Zielinski of Caledonia, MI and Candace (Keith) Colucci of Jacksonville, FL. Also left behind are his grandchildren: Tiffany, Cheyenne, Isabel, Mya & Harper; great grandchildren: McKenna and Anastasia; brother, Thomas (Kathy) Olmsted; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and lifetime friends, Larry & Kathy Wiltse and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, J Robert; and sister, Marilyn Courturier.
