CAROL MAY GILLETE, age 82 of Forest Twp., died Friday, December 23, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. Her funeral service will be held at 11AM Friday, December 30, 2022 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Otisville, with Rev. Fr. Ken Coughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Smith Hill Cemetery. Sharing of her life with family and friends will take place on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from Noon until 8PM at the Mumford Hudson Funeral Home.
Oh the marvels that she experienced! Carol May was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 30, 1940, child of H. Blair and Grayce Phare (Davidson) Hubble. She came to the Flint area in 1946 from Bucyrus, Ohio. She married Donald Alfred Gillette on February 26, 1958 in Marion, IL. They resided in Flint and Otisville. Carol May attended Holy Redeemer and St. Matthew's Schools and graduated from St. Matthew's in the class of 1957. She received an Associate in Science Degree in Biology from Flint Junior College in 1960 and a Bachelor's in Medical Technology from U of M-Flint in 1963. She returned to Mott College in 1986 and received an Associate in Biomed Electronics Degree in 1990 and an Associates in Fluid Power Degree in 1994. She was working toward a Robotics Degree. She worked as the third shift Medical Technologist in a clinical lab at St. Joseph Hospital, receiving a 35-year pin in 1996 and retiring in 1997. She also worked days at the old FOH and Flint General in the 60's, Flint Medical X-ray and Lab in 1976-86, and several other small labs. Carol May taught piano for a few years and copyrighted and published a poem as well as three songs. She enjoyed studying genealogy and flowers and had a collection of books. She was the recording secretary for the Genesee Chapter DAR, a member of Mensa, and was the Queen Butterflyrose of the Ponderosa Rose Red Hat Chapter. She was also a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Otisville.
Surviving are her children: Cathy (Mike) Baker and their children, Michael, Sarah, and Laura; Tony (Lori) Gillette and their children, Justin, Joey and Becky; Lucia and her son, Jeremy O'Harris; David Gillette (Helen) and his children, Rachel and Scott; Carroll (Debbie) Gillette and their children, Kim, Michelle, Allen, and Kevin; Andrea (Alex) Borden and their children April, Nick and Joshua; Lisa (Mike) Fear; Daniel Gillette; Rosemary (Jeff) Boldt and their children, Kaitlyn, Nathan, and Jacob; brothers-in-law: John (Pat) Gillette and Frank (Gaynell) Gillette; sisters-in-law: Theresa Seymour and Marlene (Gary) Sharp; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her dear neighbor, friend, and traveling companion, Howard Jorgenson. She was preceded in death by her husband, the morning after his 65th birthday; sister-in-law, Karen; and an older infant brother, Paul, who died at birth.
