Carl Cousins, age 84 of Millington, died on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Cranberry Park of Clio. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home in Otisville, with Gary Cousins Officiating his burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lapeer. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 9:30 AM until the time of his service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Millington United Methodist Church, Millington Lions Club, or the Pinto Horse Association of America Youth Scholarship Fund.
Carl was born in Flint on December 18, 1938 to Lloyd and Ferne Cousins. He grew up on a farm in Atlas Township, attending the one room Atlas school through the 8th grade. He played football, basketball, and ran track for Davison High School, graduating in 1957. He then graduated from Wayne State University with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1963. Carl was a registered Professional Engineer and his career culminated in working for the State of Michigan Department of Transportation. He married Billie Jean Hatch on August 13, 1966. They made their home on a farm outside of Millington since 1975. Carl enjoyed farming and hunting with his entire family his whole life. In earlier years he enjoyed riding motorcycles, including ice track racing with his cousin, LeRoy in the sidecar. Later he returned to his love of horses, spending much of the past 45 years showing Pintos. Carl was a true outdoorsman and he could always be found outside, even after moving into Cranberry Park. Carl served as a past President of the Pinto Horse Association of America as well as its state chapter and as a Director of the Thumb Electric Cooperative. He was also a member of the Millington United Methodist Church, Millington Lions Club and Millington Athletic Boosters.
Carl is survived by his son, Rod and Deena Cousins of Allen, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean; son, Bucky; parents, Lloyd and Ferne Cousins; and brothers Keith and Lee Cousins.
