Beverly Jean Maitland

Beverly Jean Maitland, 95, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born January 19, 1931 in Northville, Michigan, to Sheldon "Bumpy" and Betty Mae Westphal, Beverly was raised in Flint where she met the love of her life, LaVern Maitland. The two were married on July 3, 1948. Beverly dedicated more than 30 years to General Motors in Flint. In 1970, she and LaVern built their home in Millington, Michigan — a warm, welcoming place for family and friends that became the heart of countless gatherings. Family was the center of Beverly’s world. A devoted wife and mother, she cherished her children, Terry, Debbie, Randy, and Robin, and the many generations that followed. She delighted in each of them, and her love reached through five generations. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband LaVern; her parents, Sheldon and Betty Mae Westphal; her brother Rodney; and her sister Shirley. Along the way, Beverly was blessed with dear friends who became like family, including Sandy Jones, whose companionship she treasured. Beverly possessed a warm, uplifting spirit and an effortless gift for putting people at ease. She loved traveling, camping, trips to the casino, and time spent at their property up north, yet her greatest joy was simply being with those she loved. Her home was a haven of comfort, laughter, and encouragement — a place where all were welcomed and all were loved. Steady, vibrant, and full of grace, she was the heart to which everyone turned. Her kindness, strength, and beautiful soul touched all who knew her. A family memorial is being planned for a later date.
