Bertha G. Banta, 91, of Otisville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday October 23, 2014. She was born into the Vandoren family in Wildert Essen, Belgium on July 14, 1923. Bertha and her family endured World War II and she was a part of the Belgian underground. Bertha married Elwyn in Essen while he was stationed in the United States Army. Bertha enjoyed her patio and loved to create knit caps and sewing blankets for new born babies. She felt that new babies deserved something new to wear. She also in years past enjoyed caring for international children whose parents attended G.M.I.Bertha was able to make several trips to Belgium to visit relatives and friends. A sister Irma and a brother Leon survive her in Essen, Belgium, as well as relatives and friends in Belgium and The Netherlands. A brother, Pierre, pre deceased her.Bertha has four children: Elizabeth (Jack)Tallieu of Burton, Robert (Betsy) of Mt. Pleasant, Linda (Dean) Farrell of Otisville, Nancy (Eric) Klinert of Mancelona. Bertha was very proud of her grand children, Brian (Tya) Tallieu of Davison, Natalie (Neil) Kolberg of Plainwell, Jordan (Kelli) Farrell of Torrington, Wyoming, great grand sons John P. Tallieu II, Brian W. Tallieu II of Davison, and Lincoln C. Kolberg of Plainwell. Bertha was blessed to enjoy independent living over the years. Her husband Elwyn passed away in 1982.The funeral service for Bertha will be held Saturday October 25, 2014 at 3PM at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home in Otisville with Rev. Harold Polk officiating.
