Anthony Schunot

Anthony Schunot, formerly a resident of South Dakota, passed away peacefully at his home on May 24th at 10:30 a.m. in the presence of his family.   Tony was a teacher at LakeVille Middle School, where he taught for 34 years.

In those 34 years while teaching at Lakeville Community Schools, he absolutely loved being a part of the LakeVille community and was proud to be a Falcon.  Tony coached many years within the LakeVille sports program.   He was especially passionate with his involvement in the Lakeville wrestling program.  Tony's own 1963-64 wrestling team was inducted into Black Hills State University's Hall of Fame, his Alma Mater.

Upon retirement at Lakeville Community Schools, Tony became the Dean of Students at Southern Lakes Academy.  He then retired from teaching completely and was able to enjoy his retirement years.

Tony has always been an avid sportsman, with many hunting stories to tell.  He hunted black bear in Canada and deer in Texas, and many other places in between.   Tony loved his many hunting trips with his two sons and his close friends.

Tony loved giving back to his community.  He donated many hours to after-school tutoring and local Habitat for Humanity programs.  He also cherished his mission trips to Honduras, helping build a center for women and children.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judith Schunot, from Otterbein; 3 children, Clifford Schunot of Minnesota; Soon Britt (Kyle) of Florida; and Michael Schunot (Anna) of Michigan.  He is also survived and loved by 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sister, Jean; and brother, Cliff.  He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Schunot; and mother, Emily Schunot of Rapid City.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to LakeVille Wrestling, Brain Tumor Research Fund, checks made to University of Michigan, and Habitat for Humanity.
